Funeral services for Jimmy J. McConnell, 64, of Bainbridge, Ga., will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, at Morningside Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Tomberlin and the Revs. Lindsay Gay and Warren Fox officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Ivey Funeral Home.

Born April 16, 1946, in Mitchell County, Ga., the son of Jim McConnell and Lois Beauty Glass McConnell, Mr. McConnell died on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at his residence.

Mr. McConnell was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. His first tour of duty was as a helicopter door gunner and his second tour as a crew chief. He retired from Georgia Power with 37 years of service and was also a general contractor. Mr. McConnell was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1965, and a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Wonde Griffin McConnell of Bainbridge, Ga.; his daughters, Jennifer Cox and her husband, Bill, of Richmond Hill, Ga., Becky Strickland and her husband, Stacey, of Bainbridge, and Rachel Willis, also of Bainbridge; his brothers, Eugene McConnell and his wife, Debra, Don McConnell and his wife, Paula, all of Bainbridge, James Edward West and his wife, Cindy, of Las Vegas, Nev., Walter West and his wife, Rhonda, Darrell West and his wife, Michelle, Wendall West and his wife, Pam, Kenneth West and his wife, Tracy, and Richard McConnell, all of Bainbridge, Robert West of Albany, Ga., and Roger Dale West and his wife, Michelle, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his sisters, JoAnn Whittaker and her husband, Virgil, of Las Vegas, and Linda Sanders, all of Las Vegas, Nev., Annette Williamson and her husband, Riley, Frances Gay and her husband, Lindsay, and Judy Powell and her husband, Gene, all of Bainbridge, and Debra Kaye Chochoa of Lake Geneva, Wis.; his grandchildren, Caroline Cox, Veronica Cox, Bridgett Cox, Will Cox, Lauren Strickland, Conner Strickland, Ralyn Willis, Elizabeth Willis and Sarah Grace Willis; and many nieces and nephews.
