Services for Joe Garey Taylor, 66, were held Thursday, Jan. 20, at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Andy Anderson and Elsworth Davis officiating.
Interment followed at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Vada, Ga., with Shane Hoskins, Shawn Hoskins, Sheldon Hoskins, Joey Taylor, Justin Wilkerson and Jordan Wilkerson serving as pallbearers. Gunner Wisham, Grant Wisham and A.J. Taylor served as honorary pallbearers.
Joe Garey Taylor was born in Fountain, Fla., on Dec. 23, 1944, to Daniel Allen and Pearl Dixon Taylor. He died Jan. 17, 2011, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. On Aug. 28, 1965, he married Violet Wingate. They moved from Clearwater, Fla., to this part of Georgia about 44 years ago. Mr. Taylor was a heavy equipment operator for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James J. Taylor, and sisters, Flora Hendrix, Edna Bruner, Voncile Jackson, Annie Justice and Virginia Walters.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Wingate Taylor of Colquitt, Ga.; his children, Joseph J. Taylor and his wife, Teresa, of Donalsonville, Ga., Jenny L. Wisham and her husband, Ronald, of Vada, Ga., Jeannie L. Wilkerson, Jeremy J. Taylor and his wife, Brandi, and Joshua B. Taylor, all of Bainbridge; sisters, Dorothy Finch of Fountain, Fla., and Linda Davis and her husband, Roy, of Compass Lake, Fla.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
