Retail stores open and close, and sometimes they re-open when there is a need to be filled.

That was the thinking behind Buck Allen’s decision to reopen Allen Sports in Bainbridge on Jan. 3.

Allen owned the sporting goods business on the square in Bainbridge for 10 years before selling it to the late Brian Powell in 2008. After the recent store closing, Allen decided to reopen it at a new location, 112 W. Shotwell St., in a building shared with The Money Tree.

Allen will continue to operate the sporting goods store he owns in Quincy, Fla.

The Bainbridge store will have his business partner Tommy Rogers as manager while Allen divides his time between the two facilities.

Allen Sports carries a large line of athletic equipment and uniforms, and specializes in recreational items.

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
