“J.B.” Brinkley

Funeral services for Mr. Joe B. “J.B.” Brinkley, 81, of Cairo, Ga., were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Midway Baptist Church in Cairo with the Revs. Tim VanLandingham, Jim Weaver and Nathan Fowler officiating.

Interment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo with Bobby Godwin, Max Bryant, James Lashly, Willard Hinton, Randy Holton and Robert Nowell serving as active pallbearers.

Born May 8, 1929, in Cairo, Ga., Mr. Brinkley died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.

Mr. Brinkley served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Sept. 14, 1950, he married Bobbie Horton Brinkley in Camilla, Ga. He was an insurance agent, a past member of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and had worked at the Torrington Company. He was a retired minister who has served Bethel Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church, Long Branch Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church.

Mr. Brinkley was preceded in death by two brothers, William Earl “Bill” Brinkley and Harvey Eugene “Gene” Brinkley.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Horton Brinkley of Cairo; a daughter, Patricia A. Brinkley of Cairo, Ga.; two sons, Thomas E. “Tommy” Brinkley and Kenneth “Kenny” L. Brinkley, both of Cairo; a sister, Sue Brinkley Williams of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Benjamin “Ben” F. Brinkley of Cairo; several sisters-in-law and their families, several grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Clark Funeral Home in Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
