Local NFL star James Butler of the St. Louis Rams looks to make this holiday special for families in his hometown of Bainbridge.

On Saturday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the James Butler “J. Butler Dream Foundation” will supply dozens of families with Thanksgiving packages, which will contain a turkey, stuffing, canned yams, vegetables, cranberry sauce and a dessert item.

The families have been identified by Decatur County Department of Social Services (DSS). Identified families will be mailed a personal invite from Mr. Butler to receive a Thanksgiving package.

The J. Butler Dream Foundation initiative this holiday season is part of its ongoing mission to raise awareness and funds for low-income families and healthy decision-making for the up-building of the communities it serves.

Butler was a four-year letterman in football and the Georgia state long jump champion for Bainbridge High School. As a result of Butler’s athletic accolades at Bainbridge High School, he earned himself a scholarship to perform at the next level for Georgia Tech. While at Georgia Tech, Butler continued his success as a two-time all-conference free safety and two-time semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back.

Currently, Butler is the starting strong safety of the St. Louis Rams. Previously, Butler joined the New York Giants organization in 2005 and was their starting strong safety for three years. He was also tackle leader for the team in their Super Bowl XLII win over the New England Patriots.
