Edward Lewis Greer

Funeral services for the Rev. Edward Lewis Greer, 76, of Fowlstown, Ga., were held Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church in Fowlstown with Pastor Willie G. Smiley officiating.

Rev. Greer was born April 18, 1934, in Dolomite, Ala., and died Oct. 28, 2010.

He was a graduate of Westfield High School in Westfield, Ala., and attended college in Bolingbrook, Ill. He received his Doctorate of Divinity from Gulf Coast College and Seminary, Florida State Seminary and Smith Chapel Bible University.

He was licensed to preach on Nov. 5, 1989, and ordained April 6, 1990. He served as associate minister at Second Benevolent Missionary Baptist Church, Compton, Calif., before coming to St. Thomas M.B. Church in Fowlstown.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Jacqueline LaKaye Greer; an adopted son, Johan L. Washington; four sons, Ricky Greer of Riverdale, Ga., Dwayne Greer of Stone Mountain, Ga., Keith G. Cross Jr. of Palo Alto, Calif., and Kenneth L. Cross of Ontario, Calif.; one daughter, Kathy Clay of Lithonia, Ga.; two brothers, Robert Greer of Palmdale, Calif., and Jimmy Greer of Modesto, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Penegar of Modesto, Carolyn Huff of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jacqueline Bishop of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of relatives and friends.

Guyton Brothers Funerall Home was in charge of the arrangements.
