Funeral services for Harry Lee Howell Sr., 78, of Mount Pleasant, Fla., were held Friday, Nov. 5, at the Hannatown United Methodist Church on Hutchinson Ferry Road.
Interment was at Hannatown Cemetery.
Mr. Howell was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Hannatown, Ga., and died Nov. 2, 2010, at his home.
He attended school in Faceville, Ga., and Mount Pleasant, Fla., and graduated from Gadsden County High School in Quincy, Fla., in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.
In 1939, his family moved to Mount Pleasant where he was a member of the Glen Julia United Methodist Church and later transferred membership to Hannatown United Methodist Church. In 1998, he retired as warehouse foreman from the City of Quincy utilities department after 38 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert William and Elena Elvia Howell; brothers, Clarence William Howell and Walter Edward Howell; and a sister, Lena Mae Gunn.
He is survived by his wife, M.E. Smith Howell; children, Harriet Howell Handley, Harry Lee Howell Jr., Tamsi Howell Casey, all of Crawfordville, Fla., Gary Peacock of Havana, Fla., and Gay Peacock Steffen of Quincy; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Charles McClellan Funeral Home in Quincy was in charge of the arrangements.
