Community coat, blanket drive starts Monday

Southwest Georgia Farm Credit is partnering with area businesses to collect coats, scarves, knit caps, gloves and blankets for those in need during the cold winter months.

The Community Coat Drive will begin on Monday, Nov. 8, and end on Tuesday, Nov. 30.

Five Points Dry Cleaners, located at 723 E. College St. in Bainbridge, is donating the cleaning service, and the Decatur County Family Connection will coordinate distribution of the cleaned items.

“There are many families in our community that are dreading a cold winter because they simply do not have adequate clothing or heating in their homes,” said Allison Harrell, a Decatur County Family Connection board member. “Through this coat drive, families can know that people in our community do care and are willing to lend a helping hand.”

New or gently used coats, jackets and blankets are recommended. They would appreciate it if mittens/gloves and hats are new.

“We were thrilled at the support we received from our neighbors and friends throughout Decatur County last year when we kicked off the coat drive,” said Richard Monson, chief executive officer of Southwest Georgia Farm Credit. “When our community recognizes a need, they always come through. We’re honored to be a part of this initiative.”

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: Southwest Georgia Farm Credit, 305 Colquitt Hwy.; Five Points Dry Cleaners, 723 E. College St.; Decatur Auto Parts, 413 N.
