A memorial service for Mary Dot “Dottie” Waldrop Edmundson, 87, was held at Whigham United Methodist Church in Whigham, Ga., on Friday, Oct. 29, with the Revs. Garth Dukes-Barton and Virgil Lee officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were United Methodist ministers and spouses.

Born Dec. 9, 1922, in Whigham, Ga., Mrs. Edmundson joined her Lord and Savior on Oct. 22, 2010.

A kind, Christian woman, Mrs. Edmundson radiated God’s love, benevolence and compassion toward others, and served as a devoted mother, sister, friend and pastor’s wife, and was an active member of United Methodist Women.

Dottie, whose name means “Gift Of God,” was a loving sister to her five brothers and was the beloved daughter of Cleon and Mattie Waldrop. She worked as a young woman as a bank teller, and for 28 seasons as secretary for the Claxton Bakery in Claxton, Ga. Dottie was married on March 20, 1947, and enjoyed 63 loving years of marriage to her devoted husband.

She was predeceased by her parents, Cleon Otis Waldrop Sr. and Martha Ann Waldrop; an infant sister, Frances Malene Waldrop; and four brothers, Cleon Otis Waldrop Jr., Thomas Willard Waldrop, Robert Lane Waldrop Sr., and Larry Ray Waldrop.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Cardwell “Cardy” Edmundson of St. Simons Island, Ga.; three daughters, Linda Edmundson Griffin and her husband, Tom, of Montgomery, Ala., Charla Edmundson Mobley and her husband, Herschel, of Birmingham, Ala., and Donna Edmundson of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Donald Lee Waldrop and his wife, Elinor, of Whigham; six grandchildren, Buffi Baltz, Hal Griffin, Edie Harvey, Charla Brown, Molly Griffin and Cardi Mobley; four great-grandchildren, Maddie Haagensen, Ellee Baltz, Griffin Brown and Mally Harvey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Whigham United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4, Whigham, GA 39897.

Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
