Funeral services for Charlie James King, 73, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Bainbridge, were held Wednesday, Sept. 29, at F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Melvin D. Brown officiating.

Mr. King was born in Pelham and reared in Bainbridge by the late Luxella Mackey. He attended Hutto Elementary and High School. He served his country for 14 years in the U.S. Marines, earning the rank of staff sergeant.

C.J., as he was affectionately known, enjoyed music, dancing, traveling and making others laugh with his wisecracking rhetoric. He was a member of Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Campbell, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Malinda King and a son, Charlie James King Jr.

Mr. King is survived by his wife, Roberta Campbell King, whom he married in March, 2009; two sons, Alonzo Victor King of California and Ricky Van Earl Glenn of Nuremberg, Germany; three stepdaughters, Tonya Campbell of Chicago, Kimberly Bush of Vine Grove, Ky., and Tracy Lamb of Youngstown; three brothers, Elbert King of Columbus, Ohio, Prostell King of Youngstown and Jimmy Lee Mackey of Bainbridge; three sisters, Minnie Felder of Youngstown, Margaree King of Florida and Pauline Love-Gaines of Bainbridge; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
