A funeral service for William Berry Rentz Jr., 78, of Brunswick, Ga., will be held at Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, Ga., on Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at the Hazlehurst Cemetery.

Mr. Rentz was born in Jeff Davis County on May 20, 1932, and died Oct. 8, 2010, at the Disabled American Veterans Hospital in Augusta. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He owned and operated Rentz Grocery in Hazlehurst for a number of years. He enjoyed fishing the lily pads of Crescent Lake, Fla., and the Hampton River and salt water marshes around St. Simon’s Island.

He was preceded in death by his father, William B. Rentz Sr.; his mother, Sallie Rentz Nabors; his sister, Frances Rentz Branch; and by his wife, Ann Homick Rentz.

He is survived by three sons, Berry Rentz and his wife, Lauren, of Bainbridge, Terry Rentz and his wide, Nancy, of Johns Creek, and Marty Rentz of Bainbridge; a daughter, Denise Miller and her husband, Robert, of Las Vegas, Nev.; his brother, Aaron Rentz and his wife, Juanita, of Kathleen, Ga.; his sister, Cathy Goff and her husband, Jack, of Anniston, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
