Funeral services for Spencer E. Salter, 87, of Bainbridge, will be held Thursday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with Minister Freddie Wellborn and the Rev. David Grubbs officiating.
Interment will follow at Pine Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.
Born Aug. 9, 1923, in Bainbridge, Mr. Salter died on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Memorial Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Salter married Hazel Harrell on Nov. 11, 1943, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a retired shift manager for M&M Mars, a member of Albany Christian Church and V.F.W. Post 2785 of Albany, Ga., and was a bass singer for the Salter Brothers Quartet.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Hazel Harrell Salter; his sons, Weyman Salter of Albany, Ga., Conrad Salter of Vada, Ga., and Daryl Salter of Leesburg, Ga.; his daughters, Barbara Salter Shepard of Quincy, Fla., and Hilda Salter Bullington of Putney, Ga.; his four brothers, William J. Salter of Irving, Texas, C. Nathan Salter and J. D. Salter, both of Bainbridge, and Joe P. Salter of Climax; two sisters, Mildred S. McNair of Climax and Edna S. Brock of Bainbridge; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
