Bainbridge residents celebrate the ordination of Marcia McRae as a deacon, which was Aug. 20 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Savannah by the Right Rev. Scott Benhase, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. McRae was congratulated by her family and several friends from Bainbridge. From the left, are the Rev. June Johnson, interim rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church; Joe Clark, Susan Ralph, Barbara Stephens, the deacon’s husband, John McRae, Deacon McRae, her son, Ashton McRae of Arlington, Va.; and Deborah Clark. The Rev. Ms. Johnson and the deacon’s husband were among those who presented Mrs. McRae to be ordained by Benhase. At the service Ashton McRae red the Old Testament lesson and, with his father, vested the new deacon in a red stole that is a symbol of a deacon.
