The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office will be operating “Operation Pill Drop” on Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring un-used and out-dated prescription pills for disposal to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office for a free and anonymous service, with no questions asked.

This is being offered to raise awareness that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
The Sheriff’s Office will also be fingerprinting children free of charge during that time.
