Merle S. Carr

Funeral services for Merle S. Carr, 61, of Bainbridge, were held Thursday, Sept. 23, in the chapel of Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gerald Horne officiating.

Interment followed in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery with Terry Smith, Dale Smith, Guy Yates, Marty Brown, Marty Guy and Robbie Smith serving as active pallbearers.

Born Oct. 29, 1948, in Bainbridge, Mrs. Carr died on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.

Mrs. Carr was a beautician and a long time caregiver of her mother. She helped raise her grandchildren and was the best mother in the world, always checking on her children and grandchildren and willing to help her family. She always wanted to be a problem solver. She owned Hales Landing Bait and Tackle for a short time and was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. She was a member of Colquitt Church of God.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Douglas Carr of Bainbridge; one daughter, Sherry Renee Yates of Bainbridge; two sons, Randall Craig Carr of Bainbridge and Michael Douglas Carr of Cairo, Ga.; one sister, Wanda Slaughter of Thomasville, Ga.; two brothers, Terry Don Smith of Thomasville and Alex Lamar Smith of Bainbridge; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Cox-Ware Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
