Funeral services for Marquis Donnell Ramey, 35, were held Aug. 27, 2010 at the Appalachee Shoals Baptist Church of Monroe, Ga., with the Rev. Terry Porter officiating. The eulogy was delivered by Mr. Ramey’s cousin, Rev. Rodney Lackey.

Interment was held in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery of Monroe, with Derrick Mitchell, Michael Tillman, Bobby Ramey, Leon Hitchcock, Shawn Tillman and Peter Hunter acting as pallbearers.

Born Feb. 22, 1975, in Monroe, Ga., Mr. Ramey died Aug. 21, 2010, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Ga.

Mr. Ramey graduated from Monroe Area Comprehensive High School in 1994, and attended Albany State University. He was active in many capacities at the Appalachee Shoals and Kings Branch Baptist Churches, where his father served as pastor.

Survivors include his parents, the Rev. James and Pearlie Ramey; brothers, Rev. Brian Ramey of Albany, Michael Ramey and Steven Ramey, both of Monroe; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as friends. His aunts Janet Mitchell, Linda Hitchcock and Louise Close are from Bainbridge, as is his uncle, Willie Cox.

Jackson Funeral Home of Monroe was in charge of the arrangements. Bruton Mortuary handled the local arrangements.
