JV Lady Cats win tournament

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats junior varsity softball team swept victories over Early County, Cairo and Seminole County High Schools here Saturday to win the invitational tournament they hosted.

The games were played at the city of Bainbridge’s Bill Reynolds Sports Park.

The JV Lady Cats opened play with a 14-3 victory over the Early County High School JV Lady Bobcats. BHS’ big scoring inning was the fourth, when they rallied for seven runs.

The runs were scored by shortstop Laura Griner, who singled; center fielder Anna Barber, who singled; first baseman Caitlyn Dunlap, who singled; winning pitcher Lindsey Griner, who singled; catcher Magen Vaughn, who singled; second baseman Jocelyn Beard, who walked; and third baseman Natasha Green, who singled.

In the JV Lady Cats’ second tournament game, they downed the Cairo High School JV Syrupmaids 11-9. They went ahead to stay by scoring eight runs in the first inning.

The key blows in the inning were two-run singles by shortstop Lindsey Griner and center fielder Blair Morris and RBI singles by left fielder Alisha Peterson and short fielder Morgan Phillips.

In the tournament’s championship game, the JV Lady Cats defeated the Seminole County High School JV Lady Indians 13-6.

The Lady Cats’ big scoring inning was the second, when they rallied for seven runs. Asia Erving, Lashea Williams, Alisha Peterson, Laura Griner and Anna Barber all had run scoring singles in the inning.
