Grace teams captures championship

The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team captured the championship at the Aug. 28 Enterprise Prep Academy Patriot Games Volleyball Tournament in Enterprise, Ala.

Three Grace players received top honors at the tournament. Brock Bailey was named tournament most valuable player, and she and Emma Heard were named to the All-Tournament team. Sydney Harrell received the Tournament Director’s Sportsmanship Award.

It was a round robin tournament with each team playing six matches and 12 sets. It was also a time-sensitive format with each set played to 21 points or a maximum of 10 minutes.

In addition to Grace and host Enterprise, other teams in the seven-team tournament field were Dale County Christian School of Ozark, Ala., Ashford Academy of Ashford, Ala., Emmanuel Christian School of Dothan, Ala., Edgewood Academy of Elmore, Ala., and Meadowview Christian School of Selma, Ala.

In their first match with the Edgewood Lady Lynxes, the Lady Cougars won 16-14 and 21-8, and in the second match they downed the Ashford Lady Falcons 21-10 and 21-8.

The Lady Cougars split sets with the Dale County Lady Crusaders, losing the first set 13-17 and winning the second set 17-16.

In their fourth match of the day against the Enterprise Lady Patriots, the Lady Cougars won 21-11 and 19-11.

They also won their fifth and sixth matches, downing the Meadowview Lady Trojans 21-15 and 17-13, and downing the Emmanuel Lady Warriors 16-15 and 15-13.
