Bainbridge Dairy Queen owner Gary Phillips presented a $1,082 check that will benefit a scholarship being set up in memory of Dylan Reid Faircloth, a 2010 alumnus who passed away this summer.
Phillips presented the check to BHS cross country Coach Mandi O’Mara Wednesday for the Dylan Reid Faircloth the First Memorial cross country scholarship, which will help a senior runner attend college each year. Faircloth ran cross country while he was at BHS.
The money was raised during a special Dairy Queen night for the scholarship. During a two-hour period, 50 percent of all sales were donated to the scholarship.
On hand for the presentation was Faircloth’s mother, June Faircloth.
Some of the benefit’s proceeds will go towards funding the team’s Epic 5K Challenge run in October. One hundred percent of the proceeds from that event will go toward the scholarship as well.
Mrs. Faircloth thanked Phillips, Dairy Queen, coach O’Mara and the Epic 5K Challenge organizers for helping honor her son’s memory through the scholarship.
“The Dairy Queen scholarship night and the upcoming Epic 5K challenge honor Dylan’s memory and his love for cross country running, while enabling a fellow teammate to advance their education,” she said.
