The final two first-inning runs were scored by shortstop Briana Wade, who walked, and right fielder Diamond Bouie, who reached on an error.

The Cairo Syrupmaids bounced back with a run in the bottom of the first to cut it to 3-1, but the Lady Cats came right back with three in the top of the second to increase their advantage to 6-1.

Center fielder April Thomas was hit by a pitch, leading off the Lady Cats’ second. Thomas stole second and came in on a fielder’s choice.

The inning’s final two runs were scored by left fielder Tiffany Hand, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Cato, who doubled.

The biggest inning for the Lady Cats was the top of the fourth, when they rallied for five runs. The big blow of the inning was a three-run home run by third baseman Bria Harris.

In the JV game, the Lady Cats again took command early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first.

Third baseman Laura Griner led off the inning with a single, moved up to second on a fielder’s choice, and came in on single by center fielder Anna Barber.

With two away, winning pitcher Caitlyn Dunlap singled, moving Barber up to second. After Dunlap was retired on a fielder’s choice, catcher Magen Vaughn singled driving in Barber with the inning’s second run.

Second baseman Jocelyn Beard singled and came around to score behind Vaughn on a two-run double by left fielder Aleah Clark, who scored the inning’s final run when first baseman Asia Erving was safe on an error.
