Former Bainbridge Middle School teacher Ron Childs holds an 84.7-pound cubera snapper he killed while spear fishing offshore from Mexico Beach. The snapper broke the tips and shafts off three different spear guns and took an hour and a half to get to the surface. Childs was diving in more than 100 feet of water and was aboard the Alley Cat owned by Jimmy Nicholson of Bainbridge. He is the tournament director and past president of the Mexico Beach Kingfish Tournament. He was diving on an artificial reef built by the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association.
