Lady Cats win invitational

Coach Eugene Singletary’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team won five games Saturday to capture the championship of the Lady Cats Invitational Tournament.
They defeated the Early County High School Lady Bobcats three times and the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs twice.
They opened their season Tuesday with an 18-8 victory over the Brooks County High School Trojans in Quitman.
In their home-opener Monday at their new on campus field, the Lady Cats dropped a tough tight 8-7 decision to the Miller County High School Lady Pirates. They will have a return match with the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans Thursday at 6 p.m. at their new field.
They will host the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs Friday at 6 p.m.
They rallied for six runs in the sixth inning in their one-run Monday loss to Miller County.
Runs were scored by third baseman Bria Harris, who singled; catcher Morgan Powell, who walked; right fielder Diamond Bouie, who singled, and center fielder April Thomas, who also singled.
They nailed down the tournament championship with back-to-back wins over Thomasville and Early County.
They shut out the Lady Bulldogs 14-0 and edged the Lady Bobcats 3-2.
They put the Lady Bulldogs away with a seven-run, second-inning rally. Third baseman Harris doubled in a run and scored a run, and pitcher Caitlin Cato picked up the victory.
Cato, who played third base against the Lady Bobcats, singled and scored a run in the first inning.
Third baseman Harris doubled, stole a base and scored in the fourth, and Cato singled and scored in the fifth.
