Bainbridge council holds brief meeting

The Bainbridge City Council conducted the following business at its meeting on Tuesday, July 6:

 Approved, by unanimous vote, a request from Daniel Barnard to extend city utilities to an approximately two-acre property located at the intersection of Georgia 97 North and Whigham Dairy Road. As per city policy, Barnard agreed to incur all costs for the extension and allow the property to be annexed into city limits at a future date. Barnard said he recently purchased the property as an investment for possible future development.

Approved, by unanimous vote, a request from Bainbridge Bikefest, to temporarily close parts of Water, Broughton and West streets around Willis Park on Saturday, Sept. 18, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., to accommodate a motorcycle show and family entertainment.

Bids and Bills

The council, voted 4-1, with Councilwoman Roslyn Palmer voting no, to approve a bill for $3,027 from the Southwest Georgia Regional Commission for quarterly dues.

In a separate, unanimous vote, the Council approved the following bids: $8,439.60 from Consolidated Pipe and Supply of Albany, Ga., for gas supplies for Bainbridge Village (developer to reimburse city for costs); two bids of $24,776 and $7,604.94 from Brenntag Mid-South of Valdosta, Ga., for Water Department supplies and pool chemicals, respectively; $7,466.29 from Hanson Pipe and Precast of Gretna, Fla., for inlet and outlet structures for the new boat ramps in the Earle May Boat Basin; $66,751 from Golf Ventures West of Buford, Ga., for a rotary mower, sprayer and spray boom; and $3,500 from the Georgia Department of Administrative Services of Atlanta, Ga., for a 2005 Ford transit bus that will be used for transporting prison labor.
