Funeral services for Catherine Battles Nelson, 74, of Bainbridge, will be held Thursday, July 8, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Ivey Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Shepard, and the Revs. Paul Medley and Donna Bevels officiating.

Private interment at Oak City Cemetery will follow.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, at Ivey Funeral Home.

Born July 21, 1935, in Bainbridge, Mrs. Nelson died on Monday, July 5, 2010, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Nelson was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and Florida State University. She taught music in the elementary schools of Decatur County for 24 years and taught private piano lessons in her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her brother, G. Frank Battles III.

Survivors include her husband, Ken Nelson of Bainbridge; her daughters, Pam Nelson Collins of Cumming, Ga., and Susan Nelson of Bainbridge; her sisters, Susan B. Phinney of Canton, Ga., and Margo B. Harrell of Donalsonville, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Charlotte S. Battles of Bainbridge; and three granddaughters.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
