Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA youngsters got an opportunity this week to learn the fundaments of soccer from Vinnie Gill, a native of Ireland and coach of Cochran’s Middle Georgia Junior College Lady Warriors and Warriors soccer teams.
The occasion was the YMCA’s annual youth soccer camp. Gill, who led his Middle Georgia Lady Warriors to the Georgia Junior College championship this past season, taught the campers skills like ball control, passing and dribbling.
They also worked on heading, defense and shooting.
“We feel fortunate to have an outstanding soccer coach like Vinnie Gill come and instruct our youth soccer camp every year,” Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA CEO Ken Bailey said.
Aubrie Provence, daughter of Dan and Bonnie Provence and a senior member of coach Chip Ariail’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer team this past spring, has signed a soccer scholarship with Middle Georgia and will be playing for coach Gill’s Lady Warriors this fall.
