A graveside service for Augusta Werner Sanders, 74, of Tallahassee, Fla., was held Tuesday, June 29, at Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Grady County, Ga., with the Rev. Conrad Salter officiating.

Born Dec. 26, 1935, in Wiesbaden-Biebrich, West Germany, Mrs. Sanders died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at her home in Tallahassee.

A longtime resident of Tallahassee, Augusta was employed by the Leon County School Board as NDA Coordinator prior to starting a family. While a homemaker, her hobbies and volunteer work kept her busy. She took numerous classes at Florida State University and Tallahassee Community College (TCC) and also worked part time at TCC during registration.

She was on the Leon County Extension Overall Advisory Committee, University of Florida for many years. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, vegetable carving, picture matting, hand-tying bows, and many other arts and crafts.

Mrs. Sanders was most passionate about her stained glass and glass etching—as would be witnessed by her extended family of fellow employees and students at Lafayette Arts and Crafts, whom she loved dearly. She was a stained glass instructor at Lafayette from 1991 to 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Clifton Henry Sanders; a sister, Paula; and three brothers, Albert, Ernst and an infant brother.

Survivors include her daughter, Valeria A. Sanders of Tallahassee; two sisters, Ria and Christa; and many other relatives in Germany.

Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
