BHS kicks off summer league

Coach Scott Miller’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats downed the Liberty County, Fla., High School Bulldogs by a score of 4-2 in a Monday summer league game at the new Bearcat Field.

The Bulldogs, coached by former Bearcats coach Donnie Lee Coxwell, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The runners got aboard on a single and a fielder’s choice.

The big scoring inning for the Bearcats was the fifth, when they rallied for two runs to break a 2-2 tie.

BHS third baseman Blake Voyles had the big blow in the inning, doubling in two runs. He also stole home.

There was also a key single in the inning by Ryan Wade. There was fielder’s choice and a passed ball in the inning as well.

Left hander Marty Anderson started the game and picked up the victory. Right hander Jordan Cox came on to close it out.

The Bearcats will play in a wooden bat tournament hosted by Thomas County Central in Thomasville today, Thursday and Friday, Coach Miller said.
