Lady Cats look good in camp

Coach Latreisha Moon’s 2010-2011 Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball team won two of three games in their team camp Wednesday at the new BHS Gymnasium.

I thought we played pretty well, especially considering we had only one day of practice,” Coach Moon said following her team’s camp ending close 21-14 camp ending loss to the Brooks County High School Lady Trojans from Quitman, Ga.

The Lady Cats opened camp play with a victory over the Cairo High School Syrupmaids and followed that up with a 39-35 victory over the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs.

In their win over Thomasville, the Lady Cats broke a 31-31 tie and went up 33-31 when April Thomas hit two free throws with 4:47 left in the first half.

Thomas’ two free throws began a 6-0 scoring run that put them up 37-31. Bria Harris increased the advantage to 35-31 with a short jumper at the 3:50 mark and Thomas made it 37-31 with a driving layup at the 3:11 mark.

The Lady Bulldogs countered with four straight points to cut it to 37-35 before the Lady Cats put the game away with two Brianna Wade free throws in the final seconds.

The Lady Cats final game with Brooks County’s Lady Trojans was close throughout. The Lady Cats pulled even 12-12 when April Thomas hit two free throws with 11:25 left in the game.

The Lady Trojans scored the final seven points of the game to pull out the victory.

Last season, the Lady Cats were the regular-season region champions, finished second in the region tournament and lost to Forest Park in the first round of the state tournament. Their final record was 25-4. In 2008-2009, the Lady Cats made a joint appearance with the boys’ team in the Final Four round of the state tournament.
