A Forrest L. Woods, FLW Outdoors Bass Fishing League Bulldog Division series tournament will take place Saturday on Lake Seminole.
The tournament, named for the founder of Ranger Boats, and hosted by the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, is expected to draw as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers.
Boats will take off from the Earle May Boat Basin at 6:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. for weigh-in.
The FLW Bass Fishing League is a 24 division league circuit devoted to weekend anglers.
It offers big prizes to those who qualify for the regional championship. Top winners on the Bass Fishing League circuit have the opportunity to move up to the American Fishing Series or the FLW Tour.
FLW tour pro Rusty Trancygier of Hahira, who loves fishing on Lake Seminole, said he felt tournament anglers would find fish moving to the outer edges to start their summer patterns.
“Anglers will want to target transition places near the river to catch those big fish,” he said. “I would stay in the 8-foot to 12-foot depth range.
“Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and buzzbaits will work early and then I would switch to soft plastics and slow down, especially if there is a bluebird sky. The Chattahoochee River is really going to come into play at this tournament, The water is starting to clear up and it will help increase the big bite.”
