Funeral services for Calvin Bowens Sr., 55, of Bainbridge, were held Saturday, May 22, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe L. Sweet Jr. officiating.

Interment followed at Jonas Lobe Cemetery with Calvin Butler Sr., Dalton Durrell Butler, Nathaniel Butler, Calvin Butler Jr., David Lee Parris and Davin D. Butler serving as active pallbearers.

Born Aug. 3, 1954, in Americus, Ga., Mr. Bowens died on May 17, 2010, at John D. Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.

Mr. Bowens attended Decatur County schools and graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1973. He was employed by Amoco Fibers for approximately 31 years.

Survivors include his parents, Rosie and Horace Smith; a son, Calvin Bowens Jr. and his wife, Taniya; a brother, Melvin Bowens; a sister, Hattie Sullivan Watts and her husband, Ronnie, of Augusta, Ga.; a loving and devoted friend, Audrey Jones; 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
