The pace of Bainbridge High School Bearcats spring football practice increased this week as the team completed their first full week of workouts at the practice field on the school’s new campus.

That was the feeling expressed by Bearcats head coach Ed Pilcher.

“We have a good number of young players out here this spring, and they are working hard along with the upperclassmen,” Pilcher said. “We could be playing quite a few sophomores next season.”

Pilcher said he is still undecided about whether to have a intra-squad scrimmage on Wednesday’s final day of the 10 allotted spring practice days.

“We could have some kind of scrimmage on Wednesday,” he said. “It will depend on what kind of progress we make Monday and Tuesday.”

The Bearcats are looking for depth at running back where Thomas Smiley and Jeremy Harper are graduating.

Senior leadership at the wide receiver position will be provided by Shawn Samuels and Derrick Stubbs.

Senior Rohan Gaines and junior Steven Bench return at quarterback.

The Bearcats will be in solid shape with the return of senior All-Region 1AAAA and All-State place kicker and punter Keenan Adams.
