Shirley Roper

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Mims Roper, 49, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Decatur County, were held Friday, April 23, at St. Stephens African Methodist Episcopal Church in the Faceville community with the Rev. Samuel McMillian officiating.
Interment followed in Hannatown Cemetery with Eric McMillian, Leroy Smith, Michael Maultsby, Walter Maddox, Eric Maultsby, Vance Mims, Marrese Maultsby and Jovan Smith serving as active pallbearers.
Born Nov. 6, 1960, Ms. Roper died on April 14, 2010, in Clearwater, Fla.
Ms. Roper graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1978. After graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she pursued a higher education in nursing. She was employed at Comprehensive Health Care until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her late grandparents, who helped raise her.
Survivors include her mother, Ms. Dorothy Smith; a son, Jovon Mims Sr., of Clearwater; a daughter, Natasha Maddox of Clearwater; four brothers, Vance Mims of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Robert J. Smith Jr. of Albany, N.Y., Leroy Smith and Treymayne Smith, both of Clearwater; her sister, Regina Maultsby of Clearwater; a special friend, Walter Maddox; four grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
