The Auburn team and the Pepi team won the championship flight and regular flight titles at Monday’s 15th annual Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Steve Underwood Memorial Partners With Youth Golf Tournament at Bainbridge Country Club.
The Auburn team, which won the tournament’s championship flight for a second consecutive year, shot a 16-under-par round of 56. Team members were Woodie Warr, Phillip Greene, Bill Reynolds and Todd Mills.
They actually tied with the YMCA team of Ken Bailey, Greg Coop, Dave Wallace and Rusty Spivey, but the tie was broken by a longest drive competition.
Pepi won the regular flight championship with a 14-under-par round of 58. On the team were Peyton Dixon, Donnie Pemberton, David Pemberton and Tim Marshall.
Several individual awards were also won Monday. Greg Coop had the longest drive on No. 2 hole, David Pemberton had the longest drive on hole No. 9, Tracy Dixon had the longest drive on hole No. 13, Bubba Stone had the longest drive on hole No. 7, Rusty Spivey had the longest drive on hole No. 15 and Frank Loeffler was closest to the pin on hole No. 3.
The tournament, named in honor and memory of a former YMCA board of directors president who lost his life in a 1996 automobile accident, benefits the Partners with Youth fund, which allows the YMCA to provide financial assistance to local youths families who otherwise would not be able to participate in YMCA programs.
It was played under a best-ball, four-man format with each four-person team member shooting their second shot from the spot of the longest drive.
