Coach Jamie Ard’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team defeated the Northview High School Cougars from Dothan, Ala., 3-1 Thursday night at Centennial Field, wrapping up a three-game soccer stretch.
On Tuesday, the Bearcats dropped a 3-0 Region 1AAAA road decision to the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets, and the Lady Yellow Jackets scored four second-half goals to break open a close match and down Coach Chip Ariail’s Lady Cats 7-0.
Leanna Flowers and Whitney Thomas both played well for the Lady Cats, which were supposed to host the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs Thursday night at Centennial Field, but the match was rained out and rescheduled for 11 a.m. today.
Two second-half goals by Hal Clement and one by Keenan Adams provided the Bearcats with their margin of victory over Northview.
After Northview scored on a breakaway goal up the middle in the 51st minute, Clement tied it up 1-1 with a goal from the top of the penalty box. In the 70th minute, Adams took a long pass from Bryan Ordonez and scored to put the Bearcats ahead 2-1.
Clement scored the Bearcats final goal after taking a beautiful no-look pass from Adams.
The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the 27th minute Tuesday night when they headed the ball into the net following a corner kick.
Their final two goals came on a breakaway in the 31st minute and another header.
“Freshman Marshall Mack really had an exceptional match against Central in his first ever start,,” Ard said.
“His job was to defend Montavious Diaz, a senior and probably the best forward in the region and he carried it out well.”
