A five-goal second half broke open Tuesday night’s match in Leesburg as the Region 1AAAA leading Lee County High School Lady Trojans went on to shut out the Bainbridge Lady Cats 8-0.

The Lady Trojans led 3-0 at half-time after scoring in the 13th, 17th and 21st minutes. The first goal was set up by a scramble in the goal area. A Lady Trojan forward scored it when she followed a deflected shot from 6 yards out on the left side.

The Lady Trojans went ahead 2-0 on a break-away shot from 16 yards out on the right side. The final first-half goal was scored from 12 yards out on the right side following an interception of a Lady Cats clearance ball.

“We played inspired early on in the second half despite giving up a goal in the 51st minute,” said Lady Cats coach Chip Ariail.

“I thought our defensive effort was relentless. But late in the match, due in large part to several of our players being injured, the Lady Trojans were able to score four more goals.”

Ariail thought Lady Cats goal keeper Lindsay Unfricht gave a good performance with 12 saves despite the final score.
