Bearcats defeat Central 9-6

Coach Scott Miller’s visiting Bainbridge High School Bearcats baseball team rallied for six runs in the third inning Tuesday night to overcome a Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets 5-0 first-inning lead and go on to post a 9-6 Region 1AAAA victory.

The Bearcats, who are 5-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 1AAAA play, had their scheduled Region 1AAAA game with the Harris County High School Tigers in Hamilton rained out last Friday night.

They will host the Westside Macon High School Seminoles in a Region 1AAAA game Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the new BHS field.

Right fielder Caden Black opened the Bearcats’ six-run, third-inning rally Tuesday night with a leadoff double. Consecutive walks to center fielder Dee Friday and shortstop Drew Day loaded the bases. After catcher Drew Kelley walked, forcing in Black to cut it to 5-1, pitcher Tyler Hutchins doubled in Friday and Day to cut it to 5-3.

First baseman Parker Heard followed with another double, driving in Kelley and Hutchins to tie it up 5-5. Third baseman Blake Voyles singled in Heard with the sixth and go-ahead run.

The Bearcats rallied for two insurance runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The fifth-inning runs were scored by first baseman Heard, who singled, and third baseman Voyles, who walked. Shortstop Day singled and scored in the sixth.
