Straka invitational low medalist

Sep Straka of the Lowndes County High School Vikings, who has committed to sign a golf scholarship with the University of Georgia Bulldogs, shot a 2-under-par round 70 last Saturday at Bainbridge Country Club to take low-medalist honors at the annual Bainbridge High School Bearcats Invitational.

Columbus High School won the tournament, which featured an 18-team field, with a team score of 6-over-par 294.

Brookstone High School of Columbus, coached by Attapulgus native and former Bainbridge Christian Academy Bruins basketball coach Marty Durden, was second with a 14-over-par round of 302. Cates Culpepper shot 74 to lead Brookstone.

Columbus was led by Jimmy Beck and Kevin Meadows with even par rounds of 72.

Low medalist Straka’s Lowndes County team was third with a 16-over-par round of 304.

Bainbridge shoot 353, which was 65 over par. The Bearcats ended up 15th.

Low medalist for the Bearcats was Tanner Walker with a round of 80.

Bearcats golf coach Tom Wheeler thanked all the participants for making this year’s invitational what he called the biggest and best ever.
