A Decatur County woman reported being mugged in the parking lot of the Bainbridge Kmart last Friday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m., the victim was walking back to her car after shopping and was approached by a group of about eight young males.

One of them pushed her to the ground, while another took her purse and a third used his feet to keep her on the ground.

GSP task force works to keep roads safe

The road check that led to a large marijuana seizure was one of two organized in Bainbridge on Saturday night as part of a two-day concentrated patrol period in Southwest Georgia.

Another checkpoint was set up on U.S. 27 South. Nine state troopers who are members of the GSP’s Troop G DUI Task Force manned checkpoints in Decatur and Colquitt counties on Friday and Saturday night. The task force is commanded by Sgt. Tommy Peeples of the GSP’s Americus post and Cpl. Kyle Duke of its Colquitt post.

During two nights of work in the two counties, state troopers from Southwest Georgia made six felony drug arrests, 10 misdemeanor drug arrests, made 12 arrests for DUI, captured two wanted persons, made three non-drug felony arrests and arrested four people for driving with a suspended license.

The task force holds monthly special enforcement events in the counties served by the GSP’s Troop G, which covers an area south and west of Americus and Thomasville.
