Woman dies after accident

An elderly woman died after she was involved in a single-car accident on Thursday afternoon, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Laverne Collins, 84, of 160 Manhole Road, Bainbridge, was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus on Georgia Highway 253 North when she lost control of her vehicle and it left the roadway, striking a tree.

Collins was treated at the scene and was later taken by emergency medical helicopter to a Tallahassee, Fla., hospital, where she died.

The accident happened at about 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Newton and Cooktown roads, about 9.5 miles north of Bainbridge.

Kangaroo store robbed

The Kangaroo convenience store on U.S. 27 North was robbed by a man wielding a knife late Tuesday night, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.

The robbery happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. A store employee described the robber as a black male, about 5-feet-9, medium build, wearing all black clothing. He held a black folding pocket knife in his left hand and used it to threaten the store’s cashier.

The Kangaroo store on U.S. 27 North was also robbed twice last year, on July 16 and again on Oct. 2.

Concerned citizens and local law enforcement have set up a fund offering reward money to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of an armed robbery suspect. To report information, call the Sheriff’s Office at 248-3044 or Bainbridge Public Safety at 248-2038.
