Funeral services for J.D. Dobson, 88, of Iron City, Ga., will be held Friday, March 5, at 2 p.m. at Bainbridge Church of God with Pastor Dan Tomberlin and the Rev. Perry Lamey officiating.

Interment will follow at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City, Ga., with his grandsons serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.

Born June 24, 1921, in Alpharetta, Ga., Mr. Dobson died on Monday, March 1, 2010, at Donalsonville Hospital.

Mr. Dobson served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver and retired from Georgia Palm Beach Window Company. He was a member of Bainbridge Church of God, served as his church’s Sunday School superintendent for more than 17 years and was a deacon for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Blanche Ingram Dobson of Iron City, Ga.; two sons, Johnny R. Dobson of Roswell, Ga., and Richard D. Dobson of Thomasville, Ga.; three daughters, Debbie D. Whitaker of Iron City, Jan D. Pope and Benita D. Stephens, both of Bainbridge; his sister, Imogene D. Fowler of Buford, Ga.; his brother, Raymond Dobson of Warner Robins, Ga.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
