The Bainbridge High School Bearcats soccer team shut out the Berrien County High School Rebels 4-0 Friday night in Nashville to even their season record at 1-1.
They opened their season last Tuesday night with a 3-2 season-opening loss to the Westover High School Patriots from Albany at Centennial Field.
Keenan Adams gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute Friday night when he took a pass in from the left wing by Alex Benjarano at the top of the penalty box and blasted a shot past the goal keeper and into the back of the net.
Benjarano scored the second Bearcats goal himself. It came in the 20th minute on a corner kick. The ball was played into the top of the penalty area where he struck it into the net with power to increase the Bearcats lead to 2-0.
The Bearcats went to halftime on top 3-0 when Hal Clement took a direct kick from outside the penalty area in about the 30th minute and drove the ball into the goal.
Clement later closed out the scoring in the 70th minute when he took another direct kick from the top of the penalty area and drove it into the upper right area of the goal.
Bearcats coach Jamie Ard liked his team’s effort against Berrien County.
“I was pleased with the improvement we showed from the first match to this one,” he said. “We were able to move the ball away from pressure and work together as a team much better than we had earlier.”
