There’s no finer role model in Decatur County than Pam Martin-Wells.

Once again, she’s shown grace and poise while mingling in the men’s world of bass fishing. Finishing 22nd in the Super Bowl of bass fishing—the Bassmaster Classic—this past weekend on the waters of Lay Lake, Ala., Martin-Wells said the men treated her just like one of the guys. She was one of 50 anglers in the tournament, but the only woman.

She had beat out more than 160 other women to take first place in the Women’s Bassmaster Tour (WBT) in the 2009 Season, which gave her an automatic berth into the 2010 Bassmaster Classic—making her only the second woman in history to fish a Bassmaster Classic.

But more importantly, she said the fish didn’t know if it was a man or a woman casting the line.

Martin-Wells is the all-time leading money winner of the women’s professional fishing leagues, and she was Angler of the Year for 1994, 1995 and 2005.

Beside Jack Wingate, she is the best ambassador to Lake Seminole and what it offers.
