The annual Buck-A-Rama held at the Macon Fairgrounds was poorly attended due to the snow.

Four inches stuck to the ground on the Geneva Highway, 7 inches west of Fort Gaines at Screamer, Ala., three inches east of Macon at Pitts Chapel. Forty-nine of 50 states had snow on the ground Friday night and Saturday morning. Panama City and Fort Walton had two inches for the most in Florida.

We here at Wingate’s saw snow about 35 minutes. The kids liked it, I nearly froze to death. I turned down a good job with Sangaro Electric in New London, Conn., on the account of snow and ice in the winter.

The Media Bass fished at Wingate’s Saterday with Matt Baty and Brad Shiver winning with 18.12 pounds and Big Fish at 6.9 pounds. Other bags were 13.5, 16.9 and 17.1.

The Valdosta Bassmasters also fished out with Paul Roberson taking first place with 15.8 pounds. Jerry Pridgen had the Big Fish with an 8.6-pounder. Another fish was weighed in at 8.0 pounds. They are all fat with shad and in prime shape.

Greg Jeter waited until 10 a.m. and went out fishen a tournament and took 30 pounds. Lucky, I declare.

For the past couple of weeks, we have had crappie taken on minnows and jigs. This, however, has been controlled by the direction of the wind and how strong it was. The past five mornings we have had snow, ice or frost. We know this—the Jack fish is not hitting good so the bass is not supposed to bite. Good bedding until the jacks go to biten. Keep a tite line and watch your cork.
