Hasona wins two straight tournaments

Eleven-year-old Bainbridge junior tennis player Nour Hasona captured his second tournament in a row on Jan. 23 when he won the 12-year-old and under division championship at the Junior Chip Georgia Level 4 Tournament at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton.

In his final tournament of 2009, on Nov. 13, he won the V Throw Down Junior Chip Georgia Level 4 Tournament in Valdosta.

With the two tournament victories, he improved his Georgia ranking in the Below 12 division to 98th.

Hasona won the Tifton tournament by defeating Walker Vonk of Kingsland and Bronson Sanders of Blakely.

He downed Vonk 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 then took the measure of Sanders in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

In Valdosta, he defeated all three of his opponents in straight sets. First he took the measure of Trent Parker of Valdosta 6-4, 6-2, then he upended Ethan Stone of Hazelhurst 6-2, 6-3, then he downed Gragson Thomas of Valdosta 6-1, 6-0.

Hasona continues to improve his ranking with each tournament he wins.

Tifton tournament director Keith Childree praised Hasona’s play as he presented him with his championship plaque.

“This young man is very good now, but he should get even better with each tournament he participates in,” Childree said. “He is dedicated to the game and works very hard at it.”

In addition to his tournament play, Hasona also plays on the Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats tennis team.
