Lewis Peterson

Funeral services for Lewis Peterson, 64, of Quincy, Fla., were held Saturday, Jan. 23, at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ in Gretna, Fla., with Elder John Lee officiating.

Interment followed in Jonas Lobe Cemetery in Bainbridge with Joseph Flanagan, Wayne Gainous, Timothy Hutchinson, Kelvin McDuffie, Timothy McDuffie and Larry Peterson serving as active pallbearers.

Born Aug. 12, 1945, in Colquitt, Ga., Mr. Peterson died on Jan. 16, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Peterson was a self-employed carpenter and a volunteer firefighter. He was a 1965 alumnus of Mount Moriah High School in Attapulgus. He served in the U.S. Army between 1965-1969. He was a member of Smith Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Amsterdam community of Decatur County, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Johnnie Mae Peterson Dupont and Laura Mae Peterson Willis; two brothers, William Peterson and Adolphus Peterson; and a son, Gary Harrison.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Norma Jean Wilson Peterson; two sons, Lewis Membe Peterson and Lewis Demetric Peterson, both of Bainbridge; four daughters, Sabrina Peterson Miller of Bainbridge, Sherita Harrison Mosley of Jacksonville, Fla., Melissa Harrison and Selena Harrison Cowart, both of Quincy, Fla.; four sisters, Sarah Lou Peterson of Fowlstown, Ga., Alice Mildred Peterson Castell of Fayetteville, N.C., Aalijah Pearlie Peterson Omar of Columbia, Md., and Lillie Mae Peterson McDuffie of Attapulgus; a brother, Charlie C. Peterson of Groveland, Fla.; two aunts, 22 grandchildren, a special niece, Dorothy P. Flanagan of Quincy, Fla., and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
