The Hutto Middle School Hawks Team enjoyed a presentation in December by Maggie Guzman, who not only shared her wealth of cultural knowledge, but she also brought beautiful photos, clothing and dolls to share with the students. Students were asked to model the warm ponchos worn by residents of Mexico. Volunteers also learned how to make the famous Mexican staple, tortillas. This presentation was the culminating event in the unit being taught in Evelyn Henry’s geography class, as well as an introduction to the short story, “The Circuit” being read in Alicia Gordon’s reading class.
