Bearcats football banquet Tuesday

The Bearcat Touchdown Club’s annual football awards banquet honoring coach Ed Pilcher’s 2009 Bainbridge High School Bearcats will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bainbridge High School cafeteria.
The Bearcats, who finished third in Region 1AAAA and advanced to the first round of the state Class AAAA playoffs, will be honored for their achievements on the field and in the classroom.
Several players will be recognized for making various All-Star teams.
Junior punter and place kicker Keenan Adams will be recognized for being named first-team punter on both the Georgia Sportswriters and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution All-State teams. Adams was one of two Bearcats players to make first team on the Region 1AAAA coaches All-Region 1AAAA team at two positions. He made it as punter and place kicker, and junior Shawn Samuels made it at cornerback and punt and kickoff returner.
Adams led Region 1AAAA with a 39.8-yard punting average. He had five punts inside the 20-yard line, and a long punt of 61 yards.
He accounted for 38 points as a place kicker, connecting on 17 of 19 extra point attempts, and 7 of 12 field goal attempts. He had a long field goal of 52 yards against Cairo and connected on three of four from 45 yards and farther.
Adams averaged 53 yards on 36 kickoffs and seven of his kickoffs were touchbacks. He had a long kickoff of 65 yards.
As a cornerback, Samuels had two interceptions, four pass breakups, 35 tackles, five tackles for loss and one caused fumble.
As a returner, Samuels had 17 punt returns for 172 yards, a 10.1 yard average and one touchdown and nine kickoff returns for 267 yards, a 29.7 average and one touchdown. He led the Region in punt return yards and was fourth in kickoff return yards.
