Local athletes pace River Run

The sixth annual River Run hosted by the Bainbridge Kiwanis Club attracted a good mix of local and regional runners, race organizer Lance Wilson said.
Eighty-two runners competed in five-kilometer and 10-kilometer races held at the Earle May Boat Basin on Saturday.
In the 5K race, Devin Ferrell of Altha, Fla., was the top overall finisher with a time of 19 minutes, 27 seconds. The top overall female finisher in the 5K race was Helen-Jean Thompson of Bainbridge, with a time of 23:35.
In the 10K race, Joel Piotrowski of Tallahassee, Fla., with a time of 37:45. The top overall female finisher in the 10K race was Jessica Monk of Bainbridge, with a time of 51:20.
Other notable local finishers included Bainbridge High School Cross Country Coach Mandi O’Mara, who was the second overall female finisher in the 5K with a time of 24:36; BHS teacher Pauncho Hufstetler, who was the second overall male finisher in the 10K with a time of 39:06.
Brothers Chase and Caleb Harris finished second and third in the 5K, with times of 19:39 and 22:02, respectively, while older brother Kyle Harris was the third overall male finisher in the 10K, with a time of 40:01.
Outstanding BHS scholar-athlete Kylie McGlincy was the third overall female finisher in the 5K, with a time of 25:41, while BHS ROTC Cadet Corps Commander Erick Juarez was the fourth overall male finisher in the 10K, with a time of 40:41.
Proceeds from the race the Kiwanis Club’s ongoing community service projects, which aim to benefit the children of Bainbridge and Decatur County.
