Climax mayor in Monday wreck

Climax Mayor Elizabeth Sheddy Phillips is recovering in a Thomasville hospital after she was injured in an auto accident on Monday, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Phillips, who is serving her last month as mayor of Climax, was in good condition at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, a spokesperson for the hospital said.
The accident happened at about 3:50 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Open Pond Road and Trinity Road in Grady County, about six miles north of Whigham.
Phillips was driving a Ford Taurus north on Trinity Road approaching the intersection when she failed to stop for a stop sign and continued on, according to a Grady County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Cody Crosson of 214 Big Slough Road, Whigham, was driving east on Open Pond Road in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, which was struck on its passenger side by Phillips’ car.
Phillips was taken to Archbold by ambulance, while Crosson was uninjured. A dog in Phillips’ car was killed in the accident, according to the accident report.
