Estella Smith

Funeral services for Estella Williams Smith, 85, of Bainbridge, were held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ned Sanders officiating.

Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with Dennis Sanders, Marlon Williams, William Smith III, Ken Williams, Keith Pierce and Osborn Pierce serving as active pallbearers.

Born Feb. 25, 1924, in Decatur County, Mrs. Smith died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Memorial Hospital and Manor in Bainbridge.

Mrs. Smith joined Mount Tabor M.B. Church at an early age and was an active member.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Smith; a daughter, Carrie Robinson; a brother, Herbert Williams; and five sisters, Susie Frazier, Ethel Sanders, Sarah Goss, Maggie World and Pearl Cooper.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Smith of California, William Smith of Chesapeake, Va., Albert Smith of Plainsville, N.J., and Freddie Williams of Bainbridge; two daughters, Bertha Williams and Carolyn Sanders, both of Bainbridge; 17 grandchildren, including Dennis Sanders, who she raised as her own, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
